Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am losing the efficiency with the age. The reason could be age alone. I did not fail before, but it took time to erect and the intercourse lasted for 3 to 4 minutes. I have this problem for the last few months. I do not think that there is some particular precipitating factor. I am not quite clear about stress. Yes, I do get a morning erection, but not regularly. The frequency has become less these days and not very intense. The duration of erection is good. I did not receive any treatment yet. TSH, T3 and T4 were done. I do have thyroid and taking medicine for it .I do not have any other problem.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Although I was looking for a detailed reply, the information provided over here has enough clues regarding senility causing the problems.

  • With the advancement of age the refractory period (time to achieve the second erection after intercourse) increases and that causes a sense of inadequacy. The sense of inadequacy further complicates the self-confidence, leading to problems with erection.
  • In my view, rather than medicinal intervention the priority should be given for a better lifestyle. Being a retired Army Officer, I am sure you are leading an active lifestyle.
  • I assume this because I have observed the best discipline in personal life among army personnels, but I think there is need to increase the time devoted for leisure activities.
  • In case you have already modified your lifestyle in a positive direction, then I will request you to take the following tests from nearby laboratory and report the following details while posting follow up query.
  • Your height and weight, blood pressure, latest thread report and the amount of dose of thyroid medication, serum testosterone, serum prolactin, renal profile, blood sugar, liver function tests, serum LH (luteinizing hormone), serum FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and penile Doppler study.
