Why am I having erectile dysfunction after using sanitizer for masturbation?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I was stupid and I used a hand sanitizer for masturbation. I feel no pain in my penis but I lost erection after that. I am afraid that it could not be temporary and I will be impotent for my entire life.

Is there any way to get erection back by taking medicine or everything?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Hand sanitizers typically contain isopropyl alcohol, which can irritate sensitive skin, such as the penile skin, potentially causing damage to both the skin and mucosa. The discomfort you are experiencing should gradually subside as the skin and mucosa regenerate, a process that may take anywhere from one to four weeks. There is no need to worry about permanent erectile dysfunction, but if the symptoms persist beyond a few weeks, it is advisable to consult a local dermatologist or surgeon to rule out other potential causes of erectile dysfunction.

If there are visible abrasions on the penile skin, after thoroughly washing the area, you can apply Mupirocin ointment once or twice daily, as tolerated. Please take extra care in the future and avoid using hand sanitizers on sensitive areas.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
