Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Patient is a 67-year-old female. Her right face is swollen with red patches. She has fever as well. We are concerned as she had been stung by a bee almost two months ago. She recovered from that after three weeks. However, two days ago, her face started to swell and become red again. What medicines should she take?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Do not worry. I will help you with your concern. It looks like erysipelas. It is a kind of bacterial infection. But we need to rule out herpes zoster also. Does she have a burning sensation or pain on touch? Does she have watering from the eyes? Since when does she have this current swelling? Is she feeling weakness on this side of face? Kindly answer my questions.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor,
She does not have pain or a burning sensation. But she has pain on touch (on the forehead and right chin where she was stung by a bee). She has swelling for the past four days, and feeling weakness on the swollen side. Also, the right chin is itchy.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
It does look like erysipelas. Take tablet Amoxyclav 625 mg (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) three times daily for 10 days, Diclofenac once daily for five days. Apply Sodium Fusidate cream two times daily for 10 days. It will subside in a few days but, if there is no improvement in five days, then kindly visit a dermatologist in person as proper examination will be needed.
