Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had my wisdom tooth removed one week back. However, after two days, I had to return to the dentist because they told me I had an infection. They prescribed Amoxicillin for me to take.
But, I am still in a lot of pain. When I went to the dentist, they cleaned out the infection and packed the area. I just checked my mouth, and it seems like there is a bump near the extraction site. I am scared that it might be an abscess. I also had some swelling, but I think it is starting to go down. I am not sure if I have a dry socket due to the infection.
Please help.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Yes, there is an infection.
Use chlorhexidine mouthwash twice a day or rinse your mouth with salt water. Take tablet Metronidazole 200 mg three times daily if you have a fever. If you do not have a fever, Metronidazole is not needed. Take tablet Pantoprazole 20 mg before food once daily if you are going to take Metronidazole. If you have pain, take tablet Paracetamol 500 mg three times daily. Consult your doctor and take the medicines accordingly.
Do not smoke, avoid swishing your mouth vigorously, and you can apply an ice pack to the skin of your face near the extraction site. Please visit your dentist.
Thank you.
