Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
A year ago, I had something struck in the eye, and this caused an eye hemorrhage that lasted about two weeks. Now I still see flashes in my eyes, and when I move suddenly in dark places, and when I close my eye in sunlight and roll it, there is a ball movement across the bottom right of my eye from bottom to side in the far side of the vision which is quite distracting. I saw an eye doctor at the hospital under the slit lamp, and they said there was no detachment or PVD. And had the same exam a few months later. So my question is, do you think this might go away after some time? I did speak to someone online that said this might be fibrous nerve irritation that may someday settle down. Do you think that this may go away after time? Thanks.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Posterior vitreous detachment is an ongoing process. It takes time to complete. In the meantime, you will have these symptoms of flashes and may be floaters. The thing you see in sunlight is called an entoptic phenomenon, in which your own red blood cells pass through your veins in the eye. It is a normal physiological phenomenon and nothing to worry about. Instead, it signifies that you have a healthy retina. I recommend you go for a dilated retinal examination by a retina specialist to rule out any lesion in your retina. Slit lamp examination would not suffice, as it just examines the anterior segment and mid-vitreous. Let me know if you need any more information. Thank you.
