How can one treat eye strain caused by prolonged screen time?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am struggling with persistent eye strain, and it is impacting my daily life. I work long hours in front of screens, and lately, I constantly feel exhausted and strained in my eyes. I have tried adjusting my screen settings and taking breaks, but it does no help. The eye strain affects my productivity, and sometimes I get headaches. I am worried that this might be more than just fatigue from screen time. Could you advise me on the best course of action to follow for this eye strain? Should I consider an eye examination, or are there specific changes I can make to my routine to protect my eyes and improve my overall eye health? I am eager to find a solution and prevent this from impacting my work and well-being. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to Icliniq.com.

I have read your query, and I can understand your concern.

Please get your refraction checked once. You might wear spectacles. Use blue light filters for screens and anti-reflective coating of your glasses. Use lubricant eye drops frequently. Consume a diet rich in antioxidants and follow a 20-20-20 rule while working on screen. Undergo an assessment to check for any lesions around and inside eyes hampering normal tear flow.

I hope this will help you.

Thank you.
