How to reduce eye strain associated with prolonged screen time?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I spend significant time working on a computer, and I have noticed increased eye strain. Can you recommend exercises or lifestyle changes to reduce eye strain associated with prolonged screen time? Furthermore, are there specific exercises that can also contribute to the prevention of common eye diseases related to digital devices?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is computer vision syndrome. Use low-brightness screens, blue light filters, and anti-reflective coating on glasses. Also, get your refraction tested. If required, you may use spectacle correction and follow the 20-20-20 rule; it will be beneficial when using screens. Make use of lubricant eye drops frequently. Taking antioxidants in diet and supplements shall help as well. Exercises like convergence exercises, ocular massages, and meditation are helpful in the long run.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
