Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing some vision problems for the past couple of months now which has made my eyes strain quite easily on screens (computer, TV, phone). I have also become sensitive to light (most noticeably from car lights and street lights, which are distracting when driving). I cannot seem to ever properly focus while watching television or going to the cinema either, even if I barely had any screen use that day otherwise. I do use my computer extensively during the day as I work from home and also at night for recreation, along with mobile phone use. So, I am sure screen use, in general, may be the leading cause. I saw an optometrist who thought it was just general eye strain and advised lubricating eye drops, which I have been using. I also got a new glasses prescription, but the issue still persists. There is nothing in my family history to have any kind of eye problems. I am looking for advice on what my next steps should be, whether it be a general practitioner, an ophthalmologist, or consulting a different optometrist. Thank you for any help you are able to provide.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Using computers and smartphones can cause dry eyes due to a decreased blink rate. Remember to take frequent breaks every two hours. Also, try to look at far objects occasionally, as continuous focus on close objects strains the eyes. Keep the brightness of your screens to a minimum, and consider using anti-glare glasses. For relief, you can use Flogel-HA eye drops (sodium hyaluronate 0.1 %) three times a day. If you have any further questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Take care.

Regards.
