Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a swollen eye around the eyelids that developed from itchy eyes and later had pain. The itchy eye with a dry dark patch around the outer part of the eyelids condition has been on and off for five months. Sometimes, teary and sometimes itchy and painful. It is mostly the right eye but sometimes the left eye presented the same conditions but more mildly. Just yesterday, the itchiness developed into a swollen eyelid.I was first diagnosed with an allergic reaction to conjunctivitis and given eye cream and eye drops (Omeflox cream with Fluorometholone ophthalmic suspension). Then a month later, symptoms presented again and this time I was diagnosed with allergies of the keratitis and given me a cream to apply around my eyelids Dermofix.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Really, I read your query many times to define the problem. There is something. If they already diagnosed an allergic problem, then why did they give you Dermofix which is the treatment of fungal infection? For today, this problem of the eyelid may be an acute fungal infection which needs oral antifungal (Imidazole). Another probability is the swelling due to allergy. In this case, you will use ointment of (antihistamine and antibiotic) on the eyelid three times a day in addition of oral antihistamine (Loratadine 10 mg ) with anti-edema (Ananas forte). There is another probability that you have bacterial infection and in this case you will use Fucithalmic acid eye ointment applied on the eyelid three times a day and inside the eye once a day in addition to oral tablet Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 1 g twice a day for seven days with anti-edema (Daniza or Ananas forte or other as the pharmacy give you- the kind and the dose). Now, the big problem is that whether this swelling is an allergic or fungal infection or bacterial infection. Look, if the swollen lid is soft and not painful on touching it is most probably allergic and I have told you the treatment. If the swelling is hard and painful on touch it is most probably an infection and we cannot give the treatment for bacteria if the infection is fungal. Kindly visit your ophthalmologist for the diagnosis.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
