Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am highly concerned about my muscles twitching in my bicep, shoulders, quadriceps, hamstrings, calves, and forearms. I am having this twitching for a week. They stop when I get up and move. But at rest, they are continuously twitching one after the other. I know that these can be caused by anxiety, but I am so concerned about getting it treated thoroughly.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Muscle twitching could be related to different etiologies like insomnia (sleep disorder), dehydration, increased consumption of coffee, straining physical activity. Other possible causes to consider would be deficiency of vitamin D or vitamin B12, thyroid gland dysfunction, peripheral neuropathy. Do you have any other symptoms like numbness in the limbs, shortness of breath, or tachycardia (fast heart rate)?

I recommend the following blood investigations, a complete blood count, PCR (polymerase chain reaction), and ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate) for inflammation, blood electrolytes and thyroid hormone levels, vitamin D, and vitamin B12 plasma levels.

I remain at your disposal for any further questions whenever you need me.

Kind regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for responding.

My blood reports have all become normal. I have no weakness anymore, but there are only fasciculations at rest.

Kindly help.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the information on your laboratory reports. I do not think that this is anything serious. I would suggest you take 300 to 400 mg of Magnesium supplements daily, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated, and avoid caffeine intake.

I hope you will find this information helpful.

If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to ask me again.

I wish you all the best.

Regards.
