Is a fasting blood sugar level of 8.3 considered diabetic?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a blood sugar level of 8.3 mmol/l during fasting. Is this diabetic or still at the pre-diabetic stage? Can I reduce the sugar level without medication?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

This falls in diabetic range. You should also get post-lunch sugar done. You will eventually need medicine. However, you can try a healthy lifestyle for some time period. You should have a healthy lifestyle like avoiding fatty, oily, sweet, and high-calorie diet. Regular exercises like brisk walking, jogging according to your capacity at least 30 minutes a day and five days a week. Try to achieve weight loss which is important. Repeat fasting and post lunch sugar after two weeks to look for the response. All the best.
