Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I was diagnosed with grade 2 fatty liver. Recently, over the past two weeks, I have been experiencing pain on the right side of my belly along with nausea, loss of appetite, and so on. I also have comorbidities such as type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, and high cholesterol.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query and understand your concerns.
Sorry to hear about your situation. Initially, fatty liver disease is symptomless. Symptoms like nausea, pain, and loss of appetite are early signs indicating that the disease is progressing (likely due to enlargement of your liver). But do not lose hope, you can work towards reversing the disease process.
Yes, grade 2 fatty liver can be reversed if you start taking proper care of yourself. I do not have enough information about the medications you are taking for hypothyroidism, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes, or your personal history (such as alcohol intake), but here is what I can suggest:
If you consume alcohol, quit alcohol completely.
Avoid fatty, fried, high-calorie, and processed foods.
Avoid sugar.
Weight loss is essential, as your Body Mass Index (BMI) is around 35, which falls under class 2 obesity. Weight loss itself will help manage your comorbidities.
Do physical activity such as walking or weight training for at least 30 to 60 minutes daily.
Include a high amount of fiber in your diet, as well as vegetables, and whole grains (avoid fruits with a high glycemic index).
Take all your medications regularly as prescribed by your physician to manage your comorbidities.
If your symptoms worsen or you experience additional symptoms like jaundice, itching, or swelling of the abdomen or legs, you must seek medical attention.
I hope this helps.
Thank you.
