Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a mother of a 10-year-old boy. I want to know if rabies is a serious disease. So what are the symptoms we should be watchful for and how to prevent them?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query.

1. Rabies is a life-threatening disease. Yes, it can usually end up in loss of life if appropriate measures are not taken post-bite.

2. Common symptoms of rabies are fear of water (hydrophobia) and obtundation (severe lethargy). However, by the time these symptoms appear it is too late to do anything.

3. The only way to prevent it is by immunization of pet animals and avoiding getting bitten by any animal.

Hope it helps.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
