Hello doctor,
There are recurrent unexplained fevers in a 3-year-old female that have caused a febrile seizure. All blood work came back well, and she has no cold or flu. They even checked for a UTI and found nothing. She very easy to gets sick with colds and coughs. I wonder if it could be an autoimmune disease or some inflammatory disease that might be causing these fevers. A couple of days ago, out of nowhere, she developed a 103 Fahrenheit fever causing a febrile seizure. She had been fine for the past few days until last night when she woke up with a fever of 100.4 Fahrenheit. Again, she is not sick or anything. Since she was an infant, we would take her to the doctor when she had a fever, and they could never find a cause. No flu, no cold, no ear infection, or nothing. She had two febrile seizures last year as a result of fever spikes as well. Kindly suggest.

Every child till 8 years of age has recurring fever episodes due to immature immune systems. Most of the time, a cause cannot be found. Febrile seizures can occur till the age of 6 years. Give a nutritious and balanced diet rich in all foods that enhance the immune system. Avoid any known allergens that induce illness.

I am just making sure we cover all of our bases here. What can we do regarding further investigation, like a CT scan or consulting a neurologist? Could it be meningitis?

No, it cannot be meningitis. Simple febrile seizures do not require any CT (computed tomography) scan. They are benign. If seizures recur, consult a nearby pediatric neurologist for detailed evaluation and further management. I hope this helps you.
