Why do I have a headache, an itchy throat, and a fever?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A few days ago, I had a severe headache, and my throat has been itchy until now. I have a high fever right now and did not attend to my clinical duties.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

I am really sorry you are feeling this unwell. That sounds exhausting and uncomfortable, especially with the fever getting that high.

From what you are describing, the combination of a severe headache, an itchy throat, and a temperature of 102°Fahrenheit (38.8 Celsius) suggests your body is fighting an infection, possibly something like a viral illness or even a throat infection. Your pulse being a bit elevated and breathing slightly faster can also happen with fever, but it is still something to take seriously.

Right now, the most important thing is rest, hydration, and trying to bring the fever down with appropriate over-the-counter medications like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen if you can take them safely.

Drinking plenty of fluids and keeping your throat soothed with warm drinks can help a bit with the irritation. Since your symptoms have persisted for a few days and are now worsening with a high fever, it would be wise to seek medical evaluation as soon as possible, especially to rule out infections that might need specific treatment.

I hope I have answered your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
