What is the treatment for fibromyalgia?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 19-year-old female. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia at 16 years old, which is still prevailing now. Along with this, my skull hurts a lot, and I have severe pain near my eyes. I have a sensitivity towards light and sound.

Sometimes, even the sound of a pen irritates me. I even have blurry vision sometimes. Scalp pain is also occasionally severe.

Doctors said that I had a migraine. And even when I cry, I am exhausted. Kindly tell me what my problem is and how to solve it.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

You are suffering from a vascular headache or migraine. These are the classic symptoms of migraine. You have to take plenty of water and avoid chocolates, food preservatives, and cheese.

Kindly get ESR (erythrocyte sedimentation rate), CT (computed tomography) of the brain, and a thyroid function test to rule out other causes. Consult an ophthalmologist to rule out visual defect-induced headaches. If it is recurrent, you can consider preventive treatment with Flunarizine or Propranolol after consulting your physician.

The differential diagnoses are:

  1. Tension-type headache.
  2. Temporal arteritis.

The probable cause is a vascular headache.

The treatment plan includes:

  1. Avoid stress chocolates.
  2. Avoid stressful work.
  3. Adequate sleep.
  4. Avoid caffeine.
  5. Analgesic.
  6. Prophylactic therapy like Sibelium, Propranolol, and Topiramate.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
