Patient's Query

Hello sir,

There is an issue I have broken my lower end of fibula during ankle sprain. A very little part just like a bean is broken. Here I am sending my digital X- ray. Is it healed or not? I am taking enough rest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern. This can either be a fracture or an extra bone called a sesamoid bone called OS subifibulare (attachment removed to protect patient's identity), this can be differentiated by clinical examination and getting an X-ray of the normal other ankle. It seems to be just a sesamoid bone. But now you just need to wear an orthosis called aircast ankle stirrup orthosis. Apply ice packs twice daily, keep foot elevated. You need to take the following medicines,

1. Tablet Ibuprofen 400 mg twice a day for five days after food.

2. Tablet Rabeprazole 20 mg twice a day for five days before food.

3. Tablet. Shelcal 500 mg twice a day for 30 days before food.

4. Tablet Vitamin D 60 K units once daily for ten days, then once a month for 11 months. Take this tablets if you are not allergic to them or avoid them if you have bronchial asthma. I hope I have cleared all your doubts.

Thank you.

Probable diagnosis

Ankle sprain lateral. Sub os fibulare or avulsion.

Treatment plan

Conservative treatment.

Preventive measures

As above and rest for one more week
