Can fingering cause urinary tract infections?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I currently have a urinary tract infection. After a night of fun where I felt I was fingered so hard the following day, it was burning while urinating. While peeing, I noticed my urethra opening was swollen and also bleeding. This is now day four, and I wanted to know if I should consult with a doctor or if I should wait?

Please help me, doctor.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The infection seems to be due to some friction injuries during fingering. Take plenty of water. Clean vaginal area properly. I suggest you (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) apply Betadine (Povidone) cream locally, twice a day. Take tablet Pan 40 (Pantoprazole) once per day on an empty stomach, tablet Ceftum 500 (Cefuroxime) twice a day and syrup Citralka (disodium hydrogen phosphate) 15 ml in 200 ml of water three times a day, and tablet Zerodol P (Aceclofenac and Paracetamol) one for pain, if needed. All these medicines are for five days.

Thank you.
