Why is the gum not attached to the teeth after flap surgery?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I recently had flap surgery on my lower teeth because my front two teeth have receded gum line because of hard brushing over the years. However, my oral hygiene is excellent overall because I get scaling done every five to six months.

But after the procedure, I went to the dentist's office twice in two weeks, and every time the sutures were coming off, the gums were not getting attached to the teeth line.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

According to the reports attached (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), the area has not healed correctly. The reasons may be gum health issues, maintenance of hygiene after surgery, or improper suturing technique.

I suggest you discuss with your dentist what you are facing and ask if you need to check with another dentist for a second opinion. The second opinion is not always on a negative note for your first dentist, it is just that techniques differ from person to person.

I hope my answer helps you.
