Is free fluid in POD normal while trying to conceive?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 32 years old female. I went today for the third follicle scanning on the 18th day. It showed the rupture of follicles, and there was a lot of free fluid seen in a POD. But in my second follicle scanning, on the 14th day, it showed no free fluid. Is it healthy to have free fluid or something wrong?

Answered by Dr. Tara Devi

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the attachment (attachment removed to protect patient identity). Your follicles have ruptured, and hence today you have free fluid in the pouch of Douglas on the scan. You should have intercourse today to become pregnant. Were you given any tablet for the first five days or injection for the rupture of follicles? Let me know the treatment you have received in this cycle, for better guidance and treatment.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

No, I did not take any medicine or injection.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Have an intercourse today and tomorrow. Keep capsule Susten vaginal pessary (Progesterone) inside your vagina at night just before sleeping daily for at least two weeks. Take tablet Fol5 (Folic acid) daily once orally after food until you become pregnant. Do a urine pregnancy test or serum beta hCG blood test after two weeks from today to see if you have conceived.
