Is it normal for a baby to stop consuming baby cereal once they begin eating new pureed foods?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My baby is now seven months old, and initially, I was feeding her baby cereal from a specific brand. Recently, I have introduced a different type of baby food that comes in a jar and is in puree form. However, she has lost interest in the baby cereal and now prefers to eat only this new puree. The puree is fruit-flavored, and she rejects the vegetable-flavored option. Kindly suggest me what should I do?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. Firstly, I would like to inform you that, it is completely normal for a child of this age to have changing food preferences. Give her the foods she enjoys. Homemade meals are generally better than commercial options. I suggest you gradually introduce various homemade foods, she might not immediately accept them, so attempt it once daily for about three to four days. If she does not take to it, try something else. At this stage, she should be having three weaning meals a day and continue with milk feeds, preferably breastfeeding, at other times. In summary, there is no need to be concerned about her preference for one flavor. This is a normal phase. Take your time and be patient in gradually expanding her taste for different foods. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
