Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old male.I met with a bike spoke injury at the age of 10. My right feet got into the spokes of the running bike and rightmost edge got caught along with all the fingers except the thumb. All the layers of skin came off and bones were visible. The ankle was saved and half of the leftmost edge along with thumb was saved. The fingers were all injured and hanging. The recovery took three months but not the normal way. My fingers are now stretched too upwards and they do not touch the ground. The bones of fingers are deformed and the feet look ugly. But I can walk properly and none can tell that I have any injury. I feel very embarrassed when people stare at my feet. Can you please tell me what can be done?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the image (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You have to understand that foot has lots of joints and the action is quite complex. There are bony deformities for 13 years now. The main arch that supports your foot is absolutely normal (great toe). The second toe is also very important for load transmission, that is where the problem starts. It is possible to get this deformity less severe by surgery by using external pins and ring-like structures (fixators). But then again the process will be quite long and will take time and will be difficult to deal with. Even after surgery, there will be some deformity correction but how much function is attained is very questionable. You have to decide considering these aspects in mind.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
