Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 22-year-old and for the last two to three days I have had pain in my right foot when I put weight on it. The exact area is called the shoulder of the foot where the toe lies. I think it can be as I have been playing with my dog, running up the stairs and then jumping down backward (about three steps up) and landing on my feet but a little awkwardly. I do not do this frequently. Or it could be due to shoes? I got a pair of shoes with heels (about 2 to 3 inches) and have been wearing them regularly. I can walk normally but if I end up putting any weight on the shoulder of my foot for whatever reason and then lift myself from it, I get intense pain on the shoulder and down the side of my foot. Sometimes, when I walk I can feel the sensitivity and some pain but only slightly. Not enough to affect my walking. I want to know what it could be.

Hi,

I appreciate you signing up on icliniq.

I read your query. I think you either have metatarsalgia which is inflammation of the ball of the toes or it can be a bunion which is a bony bump at the base of the toe. As you have presented the possible causes for your painful condition are awkward jumps or heeled shoes both can lead to the symptoms you have. I would suggest you,

  1. Try to rest the foot.
  2. Take the anti-inflammatory tablet Ibuprofen or Diclofenac for a week.
  3. Ice the area.
  4. Try to go for a good trainer shoe to see if it helps.

Thank you.
