Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 72-year-old female. Recently I had a thoracic vertebra fracture (compression fracture) for bone number 12. I can hardly stand up and raise my hand. I was in bed for about a week. When I lay flat, I did not feel any pain. I am taking Calcitriol and Vitamin D3 supplements. I have lumbar disc herniation and osteoporosis. I want to ask about the best treatment for me concerning my age and condition. I do not have other illnesses. Should I do the rehabilitation with bracing or vertebroplasty surgery? Is my fracture stable or unstable? Are there any potential future health problems that I need to work to prevent? I have the X-ray, and MRI reports done before eight days. If you can take a look, it would be great too!

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and x-rays (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). I can see that there is a compressive fracture of the T12 Vertebra, which is stable. Currently, the best treatment is bracing, including Calcium and Vitamin D3 supplements and rest. To prevent such problems in the future, you need to take precautions while walking to avoid falls as you are an osteoporosis patient. Even a slight fall will increase the chances of fracture. You should also watch for any neurological or bowel, bladder symptoms and consult a physician for the same.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
