Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 37 years old. My GGT value is high 330, and I am an alcoholic. I have stopped alcohol for 15 days. I do not have any symptoms regarding this issue. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen the report (attachment removed to protect patient identity).

Here GGT (gamma glutamyl transferase) is not the only value that is raised, but other liver enzymes are too in abnormal ranges. If you are destined to stop alcohol, then I think you need not worry since these enzymes will settle in a few weeks. The time is variable, but it takes roughly six to eight weeks for the enzymes to get normalized. As such, there are no medicines that can normalize the liver enzymes except quitting alcohol itself.

I see your current body weight is also high, and given your alcohol intake, it makes a chance to develop liver disease. So my advice is to keep alcohol away and lose body weight by reducing daily calories and doing regular exercises.

Furthermore, If you wish to disclose that how long you have been taking alcohol, and what is the usual quantity on that regular day, and whether you have suffered any acute liver injury requiring hospital admission, I would be able to guide you further long term management of alcoholic liver disease and alcohol use disorder.

The alcohol liver disease is among a few liver conditions that reverse back once precipitating factor (alcohol) is avoided.

The Probable causes

Alcohol-related liver disease. Alcohol use disorder.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
