Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing pain and heaviness in my right ear for the past seven days. A doctor stated that some sputum had become lodged inside the ear. Please assist and advise me on this matter. The doctor recommends a minor operation, but I do not want to do it.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. According to your complaints, your right ear is blocked. This condition is known as glue ear. Have you had a cold before this ear pain? This glue ear usually necessitates medical attention for 3 to 4 weeks. If medical treatment does not relieve the pain, you will need minor surgery to remove the glue. In addition, you must perform a small Valsalva maneuver in which you blow your cheeks with a closed nose and mouth as if blowing a balloon. This exercise will help you to hear better. This exercise should be done 3 to 4 times per day. Aside from that, it would be best if you used nasal decongestant sprays. I suggest you consult your ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
