This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have been experiencing pain and heaviness in my right ear for the past seven days. A doctor stated that some sputum had become lodged inside the ear. Please assist and advise me on this matter. The doctor recommends a minor operation, but I do not want to do it. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

According to your complaints, your right ear is blocked. This condition is known as glue ear. Have you had a cold before this ear pain? This glue ear usually necessitates medical attention for three to four weeks. If medical treatment does not relieve the pain, you will need minor surgery to remove the glue. In addition, you must perform a small Valsalva maneuver in which you blow your cheeks with a closed nose and mouth as if blowing a balloon. This exercise will help you to hear better. This exercise should be done three to four times per day. Aside from that, it would be best if you used nasal decongestant sprays. I suggest you consult your ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist.

I hope this helps.

Please revert so I can assist you further.

Thank you.
