Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have excessive gas issues and pass stool frequently. I recovered from diarrhea six months ago. I had taken Senokot then. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Issues like constipation and gasses occur due to a low-fiber diet, so take a high-fiber diet. Include food like papaya, banana, orange, and green vegetables. Do you get a burning sensation while passing stool? I suggest you take the following medication. Please consult your physician and take them accordingly. I suggest you take tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once (before breakfast) and tablet Cremalax (Sodium picosulfate)10 mg once before sleeping, and take it for five days.

I hope this information will help you. Please revert in case of further queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

I do not have constipation alone. Sometimes I have loose stools. The main discomfort comes from gas and stomach rumbling. Previously I used to have bowel movements once a day after dinner. But now it has increased from one to five times a day. I avoid social gatherings because of this condition. I feel food like bread and bagels stop the rumbling but I still have gas issues. What do you think it could be due to? Do you have any suggestions to tackle this? They do not refer me to a gastroenterologist because I did an IBD test that is negative. Please give me all possible conditions that could cause this along with their solutions. I cry myself to sleep most nights because of this. Please help.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thank you for the quick and detailed answer.

Similar symptoms are seen in irritable bowel syndrome (IBD) or gluten sensitivity (when a person is sensitive to gluten). Whenever such a person has a gluten-containing diet, it can cause irritable bowl-like symptoms such as acidity, diarrhea, bloating, and constipation. There are tests for gluten sensitivity. I suggest you get a gluten tolerance test done. Since IBD is negative, this might be the cause. It can be treated easily by following a gluten-free diet. Do you have a family history of IBD or any intestinal disease? Apart from it, I would suggest you take the following medication for five days. I would like to hear your response after the medication.

1. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg once a day (before breakfast).

2. Tab Ofloxacin, and Ornidazole twice a day after the meal.

3. Syrup lactulose 15 ml in a glass of water (whenever you are constipated).

Consult your physician and take the medicines accordingly. If the symptoms do not resolve, you can let me know. We can go for further tests. Please do not worry, you are going to be fine.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you.
