Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 27-year-old female with a severe gum infection. I have an appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning, but I am just looking for more clarification due to the rapid onset. I have shared the pictures with you.

Kindly help.

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I reviewed your pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Well, this can be fixed. Consult the dentist. They will perform some cleaning, and some medicines will work simultaneously. So do not worry, as this infection will not last long.

Try to maintain oral hygiene properly, and use mouthwash after brushing twice daily.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Were you able to view the pictures? I am wondering if we can wait until Monday? Unfortunately, dental care is difficult to find at the weekends.

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I saw pictures. And if there is no problem, you can wait. Do whatever I have suggested in my answers until you visit a dentist. The weekend is hard for everyone to find any care.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Based on the pictures, I know it would be difficult to diagnose properly, but does this appear to be consistent with necrotizing gingivitis?

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Without a diagnosis, we cannot say, but it seems like necrotizing gingivitis. Do you have any pain? Or any other symptoms in the body other than gum problems. Because somewhere, I see calculus in the picture and gum infection.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Yes, I have swollen lymph nodes, jaw pain, a low-grade fever, and discharge from the ulcers. The glandular swelling began about two days ago, and the ulcers appeared today.

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Then it could be a necrotizing type. But I cannot confirm until you visit a dentist. This could be acute necrotizing gingivitis if ulceration and lymph node swelling and fever are there. Maintain your oral hygiene properly and use any good mouthwash suggested by a dentist or pharmacist.

Also, you can take Metronidazole tablets twice a day for the next three days.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

So in your opinion, is it likely to get significantly worse in the next two days?

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No, it will not get worse, but you may feel uncomfortable with these symptoms, so I am suggesting some precautions. It seems like necrotizing gingivitis, but it is not yet confirmed until you visit a dentist.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am concerned about the permanent damage and tooth loss.

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The dentist can fix tooth loss, and permanent damage can be stopped at this stage. The only permanent damage that can happen is losing the gums contour and blood flow. That can only happen if this is not treated right now. And tooth loss is not that easy until there is severe bone loss.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Should I get treated in the next two days?

Answered by Dr. Purva Jingar

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, sooner you get treatment, more healthy your gums will be.

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
