Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 21 years old. I need some hair care tips. I do not use any styling products for my hair. I apply oil twice a week at night and shampoo the next morning. What extra care should I take to make my hair healthy? Also, suggest me daily hair routine to keep my hair healthy.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

To improve the health and texture of your hair, here are some tips you can incorporate into your daily hair care routine:

  1. Choose a gentle shampoo: Look for a shampoo that is sulfate-free and formulated for dry or damaged hair. These types of shampoos are less likely to strip your hair of its natural oils.
  2. Condition regularly: Use a moisturizing conditioner after every shampoo to hydrate and nourish your hair. Apply the conditioner mainly to the ends of your hair as they tend to be drier.
  3. Limit heat styling: Excessive heat from styling tools can further damage dry and thin hair. If possible, try to minimize the use of heat styling tools or use them on the lowest heat setting. Before applying heat, use a heat protectant spray to minimize damage.
  4. Be gentle while brushing: Avoid aggressive brushing or combing, especially when your hair is wet. Wet hair is more prone to breakage, so use a wide-toothed comb or a brush specifically designed for wet hair to detangle gently.
  5. Apply hair masks or deep conditioners: Treat your hair to a nourishing mask or deep conditioner once a week to provide extra moisture and repair damage. Look for products that contain ingredients like argan oil, shea butter, or coconut oil.
  6. Protect your hair from the sun: Just like your skin, your hair can be damaged by the sun's rays. Protect it by wearing a hat or using hair products that have UV protection when spending extended periods outdoors.
  7. Eat a balanced diet: Good nutrition plays a vital role in hair health. Include foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins, such as fruits, vegetables, lean meats, eggs, and nuts, in your diet.

Remember, it may take some time to see significant improvements in your hair's health and thickness. Stay consistent with your hair care routine, and do not hesitate to explore other products or consult a professional hairstylist if needed.

I hope this helps.
