Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have thin hair. I recently shifted to a cold country, and I am experiencing severe hair fall. I am concerned about my hair fall, and I want your advice on how to stop my hair fall and make my hair thicker. Kindly give me your suggestions. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for your query. I have a few questions for you. Do you wear tight ponytails? Do you have any nutritional deficiencies? Are you on a crash diet? Do you use a hair color, blow dryer, or hair straightener? Are you experiencing stress, anxiety, or fear? Do you have any drug history? Please attach a clinical image to assess your scalp hair density and type of hair loss so that I can guide you accordingly. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you so much for your reply. Here are my answers to your questions. I do not wear tight ponytails. I did hair straightening six years ago, but I have never colored my hair or used any kind of chemical for my hair. I use a dryer after washing my hair. I never had any drugs. I used to experience stress during my exams, but now I do not have much stress. Sometimes I skip my meals, but I am not taking any crash diet; instead, I need to take a weight gain diet. I have started experiencing bald patches in the crown area, because of which I am stressed now. I have attached the pictures of my hair. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I reviewed your pictures (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). It is a female pattern of hair loss (bald patch with hair loss or widened hair partition and diffuse hair loss). Reduction in hair density and increased parting width with hair thinning are noticed. This patterned hair loss in women is due to hormonal imbalance, stress, low protein intake, vitamin deficiency, physical illness, low hemoglobin, lack of nutrition, depression, combing wet hair, frequent use of blow dryer, itchy scalp, dandruff issues or hot water shower. I would like to suggest you follow a few things. Apply 2 % Minoxidil hairspray with gloved hands carefully to the affected area on the scalp for three to six months. Minoxidil only slows the rate of progression of hair loss rather than promoting hair regrowth. Iron and Folic acid supplements after complete blood workup Hb (hemoglobin), CBC (complete blood count), serum ferritin, vitamin D, calcium, and hormonal profile like serum TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone). Get routine blood workup done and follow up with reports. Nutrition is the key to healthy hair. So eat green vegetables, broccoli, pumpkin, sweet potato, and cauliflower, onions. Also include lentils (dals), cashew nuts, rajma, cereals, pulses, eggs, fish, chicken, paneer, cheese, curd, peanuts, almonds, hazel nuts, whole grains, and walnuts. Fruits like lemons, oranges, sweet lime, avocado, pineapple, kiwi, and carrots. I suggest you to take capsule Perfectil plus twice daily after food for one month. Wash your scalp with X-gain shampoo (vitamin E and jojoba oil) twice a week. I suggest you to take tablet Zinc gluconate (nutritional supplement) 100 mg once daily after breakfast for two months. Topical Spironolactone can also be used. Consult with a specialist, talk to them and take medications with their consent. Avoid crash dieting. Consume foods rich in vitamin A, folate, iron, biotin, and zinc. Drink seven to eight glasses of water daily. Drink green tea or carrot juice. Avoid caffeine, tea, and soda. Massage your scalp with aloe vera gel. Onion juice extract can be tried as a home remedy. Avoid triggers like hair straightening, coloring, frequent use of blow dryer, shampoos loaded with chemicals, combing wet hairs, and tight ponytails. A plastic derma roller can be tried to massage the scalp. Reduce stress and stay relaxed. Practice meditation and yoga. Laser therapy (low level) to stimulate the growth of hair follicles can be tried. The last modality of choice is stem cell therapy or hair transplantation under local anesthesia under expert guidance. I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Thanks you for your advice
Apply twice daily in noon and night . No onion juice extract if on minoxidil.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
