I experience sudden hair fall with loss in hair volume. Kindly suggest a remedy.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 32 years old. I have been facing sudden hair fall for the past month. The hair fall started all of a sudden, and full strands of hair are falling out while taking a head shower and combing hair. I have lost half of my hair volume, and in the left top corner, the scalp is visible. I faced this issue three years ago, and I consulted a doctor. Recently, we changed the water. Not sure if that caused hair loss, so I started to use mineral water for hair wash.

I am using oil and shampoo. I have been using it for the past three weeks. Before that, I was using deep conditioning shampoo and conditioner. I have been taking multivitamin medicine every day for the past two months. I drink green tea and do not drink regular tea. My hair type is dry.

Please let me know if you need any more details.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concerns.

I feel you are suffering from chronic telogen effluvium (rapid hair loss). Nutritional deficiency is the commonest cause. Keep your hemoglobin level above 12g/dl.

Are you taking biotin-containing hair supplements? Have dates, fresh vegetables, and fruits rich in iron. Did you have a severe illness in the recent past? Are you having dandruff issues? Are you having any period problems?

Water changes will definitely be associated with hair loss. Due to water changes, pollution stress, everyone is experiencing hair fall. If you use any oil mixed with Minoxidil after stopping severe hair fall, there will be. Do not use such oils.

Please do laboratory tests and send reports. Do CBC (complete blood count), serum ferritin, vitamin D3 level, vitamin B 12 level, T3 (triiodothyronine), T4 (thyroxine), and TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone).

I hope this helps you.

Please follow up if you have any concerns.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your response.

I did not have any recent severe illness. Yes, I have dandruff, and my hair is also getting grey. Periods are usually delayed. This month, it was delayed by two weeks. Sure, I will do the required test and send back the report.

I will start taking the medicines prescribed from tomorrow. Please let me know if I should take a biotin supplement as well. Also, I am aady takitakeultivitamin tably day. Should I stop taking a multivitamin tablet and take biotin along with the medicines you prescribed?

I will stop using oil and use pure coconut oil. Please let me know if I should stop using shampoo as well.

Please guide.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Dandruff and period problems will aggravate hair fall. Use Scalpe shampoo (Ketoconazole and Zinc Pyrithione) and H-Vit Forte (Biotin, L-Cysteine, Zinc, and Copper). Consult your gynecologist if period problems persist.

I hope this helps you.

Please follow-up if you have any doubts.

Thank you.
