Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per your reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), the PDA (patent ductus arteriosus) size seems small to moderate. Considering the size of the PDA and the presence of an accompanying ASD (atrial septal defect), it would be advisable to operate on the child for the same. However, suppose the child is clinically fine and not developing any pulmonary flooding due to this anomaly. In that case, a close watch can be kept with repeated 2-D echocardiography every month to assess cardiac function and weight gain. Surgical intervention is advised if there is poor weight gain or any signs of cardiac failure. Please get the child physically examined by a pediatric cardiologist to make a better decision.

Thank you.
