Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been having “heart issues” over the past month. Like pain and skipping a beat, I also suffer severe anxiety. I have been diagnosed with an enlarged heart. I did have high blood pressure for almost a year. I was very stressed combined with the stress, I have diabetes type 2, which was uncontrolled for a month but now within normal limits. What can I do? Please help. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The calcium score is good, but the X-ray states enlargement (attachment removed for patient's identity). Although the heart might be enlarged on X-ray, this might not affect its function. Would you please tell me the following. Do you experience shortness of breath or dizziness? Any leg or abdominal swelling? Any chest pain? Have you checked your cholesterol levels? You might develop heart problems later, depending on the answers to the above question. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I also had an echo done, and that came back fine. I do experience shortness of breath. I do smoke, and I am very unfit. I am working to lose weight there is no leg swelling. My cholesterol levels are a little high, but I am on medication to manage that as well. I do encounter some chest pain and discomfort now and then. I recently had a stress test done and waiting for results. I have been trying to remain calm with the help of Valium and Xanax when required. Please advise. Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is good that the ECHO result came out fine. At least, it means the functional ability of your heart is not affected. But you must be very careful always to keep your blood pressure in check and your diabetes because they can cause severe damage to your heart. You must go for a stress test because you have risk factors for ischemic heart disease. Is the chest pain worsened on exertion? Any radiation to the arms or jaw? Are you on Aspirin? Be very careful taking Valium. Please give details for the above so we can treat accordingly. Thank you.
