Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a female and 34-years-old. A year ago, I did a Helicobacter pylori test which came positive, and the doctor gave me two weeks antibiotics course. I did not retest it. Most of the time, I face burping and acid reflux problem. I also had gallstones of four to six millimeters of multiple stones. Now for a week, a low-grade fever is coming from 37.1 to 37.5. Please advise something.

Hi,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern and will try to help you with it.

With the given data, it is difficult to tell which test was done to confirm Helicobacter Pylori. If it was a stool antigen test or a breath test (rarely done), or a serum test. Given that you mentioned it came out positive, anyways, you need to take an H.Pylori eradication kit, which includes two antibiotics along with a PPi plus one more agent (depending on physicians' preference). As you are on two weeks of antibiotics, you should get self-tested again for H.Pylori with a stool antigen test. If it is negative, you do not need to take any more antibiotics. Otherwise, you will need another ten days of a different set of antibiotics, or you can take two more weeks of antibiotics and repeat the test again.

But the symptoms you are having might not get better with H.Pylori eradication. They might be due to acid reflux which is totally different from H.Pylori. You should get yourself evaluated with an upper GI (gastro-intestinal) endoscopy and rule out GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder). You should avoid fatty food and exercise regularly and keep a gap between meals and naps. Shedding off a bit of fat will help, as your BMI (body mass index) is about 27.5. Try getting it to 25, and you will see the difference.

Thank you.
