Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am a 79-year-old male in good health. But, for the past few days, I have had a few drops of blood in my urine. About seven years ago, I had an operation on my prostate to ease urination. For nearly a year or more, there was blood in the urine occasionally. But, it eventually stopped until it suddenly came back the same way. Please tell me the probability of a problem and what I should do?
Kindly advise.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Painless blood in the urine has two possible causes. The first is cancer in the bladder, and the second is prostate cancer or hyperplasia. What is the nature of the operation you did on the prostate? Was it benign prostate hyperplasia? Is there any painful urination or history of stones?
A urologic assessment is required, and cystoscopy is needed.
Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
Thanks for your reply. I will wait for a few days. If I do not get better, I will consult my general practitioner.
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I strongly recommend that you see your general practitioner or urologist as a cystoscope is required to exclude severe conditions like bladder tumors.
Also, you mentioned blood in the urine for the last year, so CBC (complete blood count) is required to exclude anemia.
Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
