What can I feed my wife to increase hemoglobin levels?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wife's hemoglobin is only 6.7.

  1. Why is it so?
  2. What should I feed her to increase her Hb level?

Kindly assist.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

Low hemoglobin is either due to blood loss or to the body not producing enough blood, which can be caused by various factors, including bone marrow disorders. So, it is better to get her PBS (peripheral blood smear) done.

Meanwhile, for diet and supplements, give her apples, pomegranates, beetroot, green leafy vegetables, and the Autrin tablet (Iron, Folic acid, Vitamin B12) once daily.

I hope it helps.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
