Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I wanted to ask you something about my little brother. He is 16 now, and we have always known he is a bit of a bleeder, even from small cuts. Bleeding just does not stop. But lately, it is getting worse. A few months ago, he had a nosebleed that went on for ages, and then last week, he bruised his leg, and the bruise just kept growing. I am getting a bit freaked out because I have heard of something called hemophilia.
I do not know much about it, but do you think that could be what is going on? He has not had any big injuries, but I am starting to think this is more than just him being clumsy. Should we get him tested for that, or could it be something else? He has been feeling tired, and I do not know if it is connected. I just want to figure out what is happening before it gets serious. What do you think we should do next?
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern.
Hemophilia is a genetic condition where the blood does not clot properly due to a deficiency in certain clotting factors, and it can cause easy bruising, frequent nosebleeds, and prolonged bleeding from injuries, leading to fatigue. You must get physically examined by a hematologist. I suggest blood tests to measure clotting factor levels, which can confirm or rule out hemophilia. Diagnose as hemophilia A or B and its severity. Avoid activities that could result in injuries.
I hope this information helps you.
