Patient's Query

Hi, doctor.

Good day.

I delivered a baby one-and-a-half years ago, and I experienced complications of thrombocytopenia. The doctors determined it was gestational thrombocytopenia, which would spontaneously resolve within six weeks after delivery. Initially, my platelet count improved from 80,000 to 1,30, 000 microliter of blood, but it started declining again. Since then, I have been feeling unwell, and my latest automated platelet count was 63,000 microliter of blood. After my c-section, I was given heparin 5000 US units. When I asked why I received heparin with a prior platelet count of 80, 000 microliter of blood they mentioned that the doctor had prescribed it. I have encountered various problems since giving birth. Could the administration of heparin be the reason for my persistently dropping platelet count? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thank you for writing, and I understand your concern.

When the platelet count falls, heparin is given to prevent bleeding symptoms. If the platelet count is low, it can lead to bleeding in various parts of the body, such as the stomach and intestines. Therefore, heparin is administered to protect against such bleeding. The symptoms you are experiencing are not due to heparin administration but rather the result of low platelet levels.

I suggest focusing on a healthy diet that includes papaya, milk, oats, juices, and green vegetables. These foods can help increase platelet count. It is not uncommon for some women to experience low platelet counts after pregnancy due to hormonal and blood factor changes.

Please let me know if you have any symptoms like fever. Have you been tested for dengue or malaria? Also, please provide information about your medications so I can assist you accordingly. Kindly follow up if you have more queries.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
