Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 25 years old, and the power in my eyes is high. It is 12 in one eye and 14 in the other eye. Will the power increase with age, and will I go blind? Is it possible to avoid blindness? Kindly suggest.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. You have high myopia. It is usually axial myopia, where the eyeball size increases. The retina, which is the innermost layer of the eye is inelastic, and it becomes thin and weak if the eyeball size increases. This retinal weakness, or thinning leads to many retinal issues, which affects eyesight. The chances of myopia progression are very less at this age, and the risk of total blindness is rare. I suggest regular eye examination, especially retinal examination to prevent the progression. I hope this helps you. Thank you.
