Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am hypertensive and asthmatic. I got my routine blood tests done. I found that my serum B12 is 1103. Is it ok? Currently, I am taking Telma AM, Supradyn, and Foracort 40 mg.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query. You have raised B12 levels, which can be due to the Supradyn tablet (which is vitamin B12).

So I would suggest stopping vitamin B12.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

Did you check my reports attached?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, I have checked your reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity).

Your kidney function test, urine routine examination, lipid profile, thyroid function, and serum uric acid are normal.

Your fasting blood sugar test is high. I suggest you repeat the fasting blood sugar test or do a serum HbA1C (Hemoglobin A1c) test to see three months' blood sugar level.

Your test shows that vitamin B12 levels are on the higher side, which can be due to the intake of Supradyn (which contains vitamin B12). Your test also shows vitamin D level is insufficient, which should be more than 30. I suggest vitamin D supplements for the same.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have checked my FBS three times, and its values are 112, 110, and 111. Should I start diabetic medication? My HbA1c is 5.4. My HbA1c is low because I eat only one meal a day in the evening. Remaining time, I only drink water.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Your HbA1c (Hemoglobin A1c) is normal, although fasting blood sugar is slightly high. You need to maintain blood sugar by doing lifestyle changes like avoiding high glycemic index foods (which raise blood sugars immediately like carbohydrates and sugars). Also, if you are overweight, try to decrease weight and increase physical activity (daily 30 minutes brisk walk). You do not need diabetic medications as you are not diabetic. Also, take meals both times but in moderation.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
