Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had a protected intercourse with a female sex worker. I tested negative for HIV ribonucleic acid polymerase chain reaction test, HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) 1 and 2 antibodies, and protein 24 antigen test. Do I need any further testing or is it conclusive?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com
Thank you for your query.
The chances of transmission of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) by single protected intercourse are almost nil if the condom is used in a proper manner. The chances of an HIV test coming positive later are almost nil, with the given test results and dates. But it may be better to go for an HIV antibody test after 90 days of exposure to be relieved of anxiety totally and obtain conclusive results.
I hope this has helped you.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thanks for your reply.
The exposure was twice, like all happened within two hours on the same day, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), HIV-1 or HIV-2 antibody and antigen protein 24 tests were conclusive at 45 days (as per their guidelines). They consider waiting for 90 days for an antibody test, or a finger-prick test. As I do not want to stay anxious for 90 days, I am taking another test today on the 28th day post-exposure. Can I take another HIV antibody test at 45 45-day interval?
Please help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
HIV test is considered almost conclusive. But it may be better to go for an HIV antibody test after 90 days of exposure for conclusive results.
I hope this has helped you.
Thanks and regards.
