Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I had protected sex with a sex worker, and I have a cut in my hand from three days ago, and her vagina fluids might have touched the cut. Is it possible that I will get HIV or any other sexually transmitted viruses?
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I can understand your concern.
The chances of transmission of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by single-protected intercourse are almost nil if the condom is used correctly.
The chances of transmission of HIV by fingering are nil unless there are bleeding wounds on a finger. If the cut is three days old, it would probably have healed or formed a scab (depending on the size of the cut, depth, etc ). If it is not bleeding or an open wound, then the chances of transmission of HIV are almost nil. If the person is HIV-negative, there is no chance of transmission of HIV.
There are some sexually transmitted diseases, like herpes simplex virus, which can be transmitted by skin-to-skin contact or kissing. The chances of transmission are higher if there are active lesions at the time of contact.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Take care.
Thank you.
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
Thank you for the reply. Please see the cut picture and tell me if it is active or not.
Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I read your query and can understand your concern.
The chances of vaginal fluids coming in contact with this site may be remote.
The wound is slightly larger and appears to be in the healing stage. It may not be completely healed. There is a possibility of transmission of HIV if it comes in contact with infected fluids, but the risk may be low with the given description. Please consult your doctor for further assessment and management.
I hope I have answered your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards.
