Are my symptoms due to HIV after oral sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

About nine weeks ago, I received unprotected oral sex from a female with unknown status, and she possibly was a sex worker. I have had an antibody or antigen test done 17 days later nonreactive, and I have had two p24 antibody or antigen tests done, one at 24 days and the other at 42 days later, both nonreactive.

  1. How accurate are these tests?
  2. Can I be confident of the negative?

My tonsils are swollen, and it is making me a little worried.

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The tests performed are very authentic. They are very sensitive. Do not worry. Tonsils may be swollen due to other causes not necessarily related to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) virus infection only.

Following are my suggestions:

  1. Hot saline gargle before breakfast and dinner.
  2. No savories.
  3. Add citrus fruits like lemon, orange, kiwi, gooseberry, etc.
  4. Suggested treatment: Tablet Tylenol (Acetaminophen) 650 mg half tablet two times after lunch and dinner or whenever required. Tablet Taxim-O (Cefixime) after lunch and dinner for five days.

I hope this settles your query and problem.

Thank you.
