This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have acne and acne scars everywhere on my face. A lot of scars and acne occur during the time of the menstrual cycle. It has been happening for one year.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Acne vulgaris, also termed acne, appears most commonly during adolescence and may sometimes keep recurring till the late twenties. For some, it may appear during adulthood as well. It is due to the sudden changes in the hormone levels in your body. Diet and climate changes can also affect it's on and off appearances. There are changes in hormones during menstrual cycles, which may also exacerbate its appearance. I suggest you consult a specialist and take the following medicines with their consent. Use Salicylic acid 2 % and Glycolic acid face wash twice daily to be used once in the morning and once at night. Face wash should be applied and gently massaged on your face in circular motions for one minute and washed off. Clindamycin and Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5 % gel to be applied on the pimples after washing your face using the face wash. The gel should be applied in the morning and evening daily. Take Tablet Ascorbic acid 500 mg chewable tablet to be taken twice daily after food for two months. Avoid oily and fried food, milk and dairy products, red meat, and sweets. Consume at least ten glasses of water daily. Include more fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid picking the pimples to avoid scarring. Acne scars can be reduced by chemical peels, which are done in sessions at a dermatology clinic by a professional. Once you have reached 18 years of age, you may undergo that treatment to lessen the appearance of acne scars. Acne may appear on and off till the late twenties, and it can be managed using the above medications.
