What do the laboratory test results suggest about HSV?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 31 years old and married with two kids. I have no symptoms. I went to my obstetrician and asked if they ever tested me for HSV and was informed no, so I asked to be tested. I had anxiety and depression before the testing. I take Klonopin PRN and Effexor daily. I have attached my laboratory results for you to check. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have thoroughly read your query and understand your concern.

It would be better if you would send me your detailed obstetrical, gynecological, medical, surgical, drug, and medical history. A report of this IgG (immunoglobulin G) and IgM (immunoglobulin M) would be better if you posted it here so I could comment more nicely. IgG positive means you have immunity against disease or you had a vaccination against it. IgM positive means there was a recent infection or chronic active infection. So, if IgM is positive means, you need to contact an infectious control specialist to have treatment. A vaccine is to be given if there is a risk of infection, but if already infected, then you need treatment. Also, there is a need to trace your partner for infection, as he might need treatment. These infections need extra precautions if pregnancy occurs.

I hope you get my point.

Best of luck.
