Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My cholesterol levels are high. I have dizziness upon fast movement and pain in my eyes and forehead. Previously, I had disorientation while walking and would take the tablet Stugeron.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern and will surely help you out.

I have reviewed your attachments (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity). Your cholesterol level is borderline, whereas triglycerides are slightly higher. The other blood tests are normal except for vitamin D, which is deficient. Also, your HbA1c is 5.8 %, which points towards prediabetes. Kindly answer the below questions for better guidance.

  • Do you have any other symptoms?
  • Has your body weight changed in recent times?
  • Do you have a family history of diabetes?
  • Have you checked your BP (blood pressure) in recent times? If yes, then what is the value?
  • What is the level of physical activity you do?

Kindly revert with the answers.

Take care.

  • Has your body weight changed in recent times? - Not much; it has only changed from 72 kg to 71.3 kg.
  • Do you have a family history of diabetes? - Not diabetes, but my father had a brain stroke and paralysis.
  • Have you checked your BP (blood pressure) in recent times? If yes, then what is the value? - My yesterday's BP reading was 123/88 mm Hg.
  • What is the level of physical activity you do? - I have very low physical activity, and I smoke occasionally.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Considering your HbA1c (glycated hemoglobin), which points towards prediabetes, I suggest you do lifestyle modifications for three months, and then we can reassess. Considering your young age, I suggest the following:

  • Physical activity of at least 30 minutes a day. It should be a combination of brisk walking, jogging, and muscle-strengthening exercises. Reduce your weight by 10 to 15 %.
  • Include green leafy vegetables, sprouts, and cereals in your diet.
  • Limit your sugar intake.
  • Regularly monitor your BP. If the readings are continuously above 140/90 mm Hg, I suggest you consult your doctor before starting treatment.
  • Quit smoking.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
