Hello doctor,
My baby is 86 days old; he looks at my face, follows movements, and smiles at the ceiling fan, lights, etc. He moves his legs and arms, and he sometimes stiffs his body. When he cries, he looks at us. He has also gained weight. He was diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy-2 (HIE-2) at delivery, and persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) with left ventricular failure and neonatal sepsis; everything was resolved. He was ventilated for 15 days and stayed with oxygen support for 13 days. The oxygen was weaned off (stopped) on the 28th day and he was shifted to the mother's side on the 35th day. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), fundoscopic examination, and electroencephalogram (EEG) were performed on the 29th day, and were normal. Is my baby normal, or do I have to worry about anything?

But unfortunately, it looks like the baby had a stormy course during the perinatal period, as the baby was diagnosed with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy-2 (HIE-2). So, knowing how it is associated with convulsions (fits) is important. Stiffness while crying is not normal. However, the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and electroencephalogram (EEG) are normal, which is a good sign. I recommend consulting a neonatologist for the same. As the baby had a stormy course, following up with concerned doctors is of paramount importance to ensure we do not miss serious issues like convulsion, delay in growth and development, or hearing impairment.

Hello doctor,
My baby is not taking any treatment for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy-2 (HIE-2). The doctor gave him medication only once within 24 hours after delivery for hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy-2 (HIE-2), and after that, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy was not evidenced, and his hearing test was also normal. In addition, he stiffens his body only sometimes while crying and when I am stretching him for exercise. So do I have to worry about anything?
