Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My doctor has put on my medical records a diagnosis of hysteria and I do not know what that means? The other conditions I have are hypothyroidism, celiac disease, anxiety or depression. The medications I take are Wellbutrin XL 300, Clonazepam 0.5, and Levothyroxine 100 mcg.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

First, coming to hysteria, it is a probable diagnosis which is deducted by your answers to attending physician. It simply indicates that your answers are ungoverned and uncontrolled and in conditions when some answers given by you are unintentional and no relationship to current aspects. This is a controllable situation. Simple anxiolytic will do work. So, Clonazepam was given.

Secondly, hypothyroidism. It is deducted by your presenting complaints and blood work done based on complaints for thyroid profile. Treatment is Levothyroxine.

Third, anxiety or depression represents mood swings or mood disorders having some varied swings in short span. These are deducted based on your answer to attending physician. Treatment is a short course and a physician prescription for Wellbutrin XL (Bupropion).

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for all your help. I have one more question. What is hysteria? Can you explain it to me?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Naturally, hysteria refers to a condition where there is extreme anxiety, depression or loss of self-esteem and uncontrolled aggression. The diagnosis of hysteria has been a version of past as the understanding of it changed over the period. In a simple word, if a child is making loud sounds when you are watching favorite scenes and shouts at her in an unconscious sense will be categorized as hysteria and in the same situation, if you are in your normal sense, you would simply deviate child for other engaging work rather than scolding. These concepts make the diagnosis of hysteria (this is the simplest understanding). Simply, it represents your uncontrolled anger or anxiety or depression when you can simply manage it when you are normal you.
