Is it normal to get a lump after Botox injection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had Botox five days ago. Now I have huge lumps left where the injection was done. What should I do? Will they and what has happened? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern, bumps and mosquito bite like lesions are quite common after the Botox shots, but they go off usually within a few hours or days of the injection. Since it is over five days since it is been done and still it is not subsided yet or if develop pain or tenderness, it is advised you consult the cosmetologist again. In some cases, it can take up to a week too. So do not panic. It happens due to the saline solution that is mixed or reconstituted with the Botox and goes off as soon as the saline get absorbed into the tissues. It can also happen with small cutaneous vessels being injured which would also heal in a few days. Please do not massage the area vigorously, exercise, stress yourself for about two weeks. If you are on any anticoagulants or antiplatelets, please withhold it.

I hope this helps.
