Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am 21 years old, and I find that I have light bleeding during ovulation time. Sometimes it goes and comes. I am currently bleeding for a few days now, and the period tracker says that my period is not due until six days. I know this bleeding is not my period being early. I have had a light bleeding mid-cycle for over a year now. So I am wondering what the problem is?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Thanks for reaching out.
It seems like you are having intermenstrual bleeding or bleeding between periods. Nothing to worry about it; I can help you with this. A vast number of factors can cause it:
1. Hormonal imbalance.
2. PCOD (polycystic ovary disease).
3. Pregnancy, if not possible, but still, we need to exclude it.
4. Pathologies like an ovarian cyst, fibroid, endometriosis, polyp, etc.
5. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).
6. Cervical causes like infection or erosion.
It is essential to do a couple of investigations to reach an appropriate diagnosis and offer you better treatment at the right time. I know menstrual disorders are always a hell lot of stress for women, so we need to treat it as soon as possible.
1. Thyroid function test.
2. Ultrasound pelvis to rule out any pathology or PCOD.
3. Serum beta hCG blood test to rule out pregnancy.
4. Pap smear if not done previously.
5. STI (sexually transmitted infections) screening if sexually active.
Physical examination to be done by a gynecologist to rule out any cervical pathology. Other hormonal studies can be done later.
